Don Bosco Yercaud

Don Bosco “Sola Illam” – Yercaud

A few elementary government schools are situated in Yercaud. This area is in deplorable condition with very little facilities. They have poor attendance in terms of staff and students. Deprived of education and attention, they have been waiting long for the dawn of liberation. There are a cluster of 12 villages within a radius of 13 km with a population of about 10,000.

Mostly, children do not attend school because their parents are illiterates and do not realize the importance of education. They need ‘Education’ in its holistic sense, in order to liberate from their present conditions and to empower them – thus bringing them to the mainstream of life.

Don Bosco Sola Illam at Yercaud has all necessary infrastructures to accommodate, feed and educate these tribal children. The government intervention alone is not sufficient to meet the educational needs of this people. The school-going children have to be taught after the school hours in order to improve their academic performance and to prevent them from dropping out. It is here the Salesians of Don Bosco-Yercaud, have felt the need for providing supplementary education and healthcare for the tribal children.

Beneficiaries: In an average, about 30 tribal children from remote tribal villages are given accommodation, food and are educated.
